About Kuleni Forward

Turning Interest into Action

Hey! I'm so excited to share the story of how our non-profit, Kuleni Forward, came to be. My name is Siena Pradhan, and I'm a senior at Phillips Academy Andover.

The summer of 2023 was an absolute turning point in my life, and it all started with an incredible research opportunity in Nepal. I had the privilege of collaborating with Dr. Netra Chhetri of the School for the Future of Innovation in Society, College of Global Futures at Arizona State University. Dr. Chhetri is an expert in global food security, sustainability, climate change, and innovation. Our research surround the effects of a new solar powered irrigation system (SPIS) on the communities, specifically the Kuleni village. We research how land use, income, and sustainable practices have changed since the implementation of this new irrigation system. This system encourages climate friendly farming practices through the use solar power over fossil fuels and also helps reduce water consumption of crops by optimizing water usage. It was an incredible experience to learn so much.

As I spent time in the Kuleni village in Nepal, I witnessed firsthand how SPIS brought about profound change. It amazed me to see tangible impacts - increased crop yields, food security, and a sustainable future for the Nepali people. The resilience and spirit of the villagers made me feel like I had to do more. This is how Kuleni Forward began.

Kuleni Forward aims to expand the use of SPIS for farming communities in Nepal. My aim is to further empower rural communities with sustainable solutions, so they can thrive amidst the challenges they face. We're just getting started, so we need the support and generosity of those who believe in our cause. Each of your donations will ensure the communities with reliable irrigation and food security.
